Marklew MCC Blanc de Blanc 2020 Release July

It’s a beautiful winter’s day at the foot of Simonsberg Stellenbosch mountain range. As the snow starts to fall and the trees stand bare, one can easily think all is quiet in the cellar. After all, it’s the season of wood crackling in the fire place and a full-bodied red wine in your glass.

The cellar, however, is a buzz of activity as we are busy finalising our white wines and MCC. The Sauvignon Blanc has been bottled. Tasting it after two weeks in the bottle is like a fresh breeze on a summer’s day – a burst of tropical pineapple and peach flavours. The mid pallet is reminiscent of childhood scents in my grandmother’s kitchen when she cut some fresh white pears.

The second batch of the maiden vintage Blanc de Blanc MCC is being disgorged this week (after over 36 months on lees) and will be labelled and ready by mid-July. This batch has been left on the lees for another year, so it will trump the first batch. The development in the bottle has been exceptional and I expect a show stopper wine. With only about 225 cases available, be ready to buy some quickly or you’re likely to miss out. Next month, we’ll prepare the last of the whites for this year and our widely loved Chardonnay will be part of our next edition.

Stay safe until next time,
